Outside Sales Representative

Job Summary

Sells products to business and industrial establishments or individuals at sales office, store, showroom, or customer’s place of business by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, and other sources.
    2. Travels throughout sales territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, or talks with customers on sales floor or by phone.
    3. Displays or demonstrates product, using samples or catalog, and emphasizes salable features.
    4. Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
    5. Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm’s production and delivery schedules.
    6. Works with inside sales representatives to keep account activities and literature up to date.
    7. Coordinates customer training.
    8. Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
    9. Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
    10. Uses computer to design systems layout.
    11. Other duties as assigned.

    8. Analytical and problem solving skills: Ability to calculate numbers and problem solve thru complex issues.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
    9. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare and develop reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, as needed.
    10. Ability to use independent judgment, and to manage and impart confidential information.
    11. Communication proficiency: Ability to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
    12. Ability to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must be able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
    13. Must have a professional and courteous manner when dealing with others, and provide effective and efficient customer service.
    14. Personal effectiveness and credibility.
    15. Must be organized, thorough, have a high level of accuracy, and pay attention to details.

    18. Maintains regular attendance and timeliness.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or GED, and 1 – 2 years of related experience and training.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills, plus analytical, organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  3. Effective computer skills and experience in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Excellent time management and follow up skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Associate’s Degree in Business, and/or 2 – 4 years of related experience and training.
  2. Two to four years of related experience in sales.
  3. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
