Interior Design Intern
As an Interior Design Intern for West Michigan Office Interiors, you will work closely with our design team on various projects, contributing to the creation of high-quality designs that align with our brand and client needs. Not only will you work closely with our Designers, you will also spend time with our sales and operations teams to fully experience the commercial furniture industry sales and procurement process. You’ll gain in depth experience of how the process works through attending meetings, creating designs and specifications, creating proposals for
bidding, the awarding, and installation through final punch lists. This will be a great opportunity to gain experience by working with and being mentored by seasoned Designers that work for one of the most tenured furniture dealers in West Michigan.
This position will provide you with hands-on experience, real-time project involvement, and an opportunity to be an integral part of a winning team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Position Responsibilities
– Support the design team by completing projects in CET Designer including, but not limited to, converting
drawing formats, developing space plans and 3D renderings, producing installation drawings, creating
finished presentation packets, and updating existing projects
– Assist the design team in creative space planning, developing unique design concepts
– Hands-on curation of fabric and finish selections for respective customer projects
– Provide support as needed to maintain the Selections Center’s fabric and finish libraries
– Help out on job sites for field measurements as needed
Time-Management Duties
– Working closely with design team members to achieve agreed-upon goals and deadlines
– Updating design team on project progress, regular communication in regards to design changes and
updates
– Provide project assistance by agreed-upon deadlines
Administrative Duties
– Management of assigned projects
– Collaborate with the sales team as well as cross-functionally with other internal departments
– Contact/meet with product representatives to learn options and trends in the industry
– Flexibility and willingness to adapt
Education/Training/Experience
– Preferred Senior or Junior Interior Design Student working towards a Bachelor’s degree in an CIDA accredited
Interior Design program
– Proficient in CET Designer (experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Bluebeam a plus)
– Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (experience in PowerPoint a plus)
– Ability to create office furniture space plans and coordinate pleasing finish selections
– Portfolio required for consideration; please provide link or provide your portfolio
Qualifications/Requirements
– Expected Date Start: ASAP for part-time local
– Schedule to work around class hours, 15-20 hours a week (minimum), three (3) days of office based work at WMOI–Grand Rapids
– With the exception of training days at WMOI–Holland headquarters, the majority of office time will be at WMOI-Grand Rapids (must have reliable transportation)
– This internship has the potential to transition into a full time position
– Portfolio required at interview
